Featuring Diana McLeish, Head of Marketing ‘behind the scenes’ at Scullion LAW.
When did you join Scullion LAW?
I started in 2009 on a consultancy basis to do PR, marketing and Events after I had gained experience in PR & Radio working in Edinburgh. My first year working full time at the office was exciting. I was able to be hands on and creative, working closely with Nicholas to deliver his vision from the word go. I helped to rebrand the firm from Nicholas J. Scullion & Co into Scullion LAW. We also won the Scottish Criminal Law Firm of the Year Award early 2010 which was a massive achievement for us. I also organised the VIP launch of the new office premises 105 Cadzow Street which was a star studded event. Later that year with the help of the Head of Education from South Lanarkshire Council and my colleague Shanna, we set up the first Annual School’s Debating Cup – which is now in its 10th successful year. We got a motion passed through parliament as an excellent example of a local business engaging with the community. It was a really fun chapter and I enjoyed being back in Glasgow for a short while before I met my partner who encouraged me to move down to London 2011-2015. I missed being a part of Scullion LAW so I returned to work at the firm in 2015.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
During my time at the office, I have pulled together several award winning legal submissions including the Scottish Legal Award Excellence in Client Care 2016 and the Community Contribution 2019 of which I am most proud. I would not have been able to do this without the hard work put in by our fabulous team. Wining feels amazing. It really motivates us all and feels great to get national recognition amongst our peers.
We have also been shortlisted for the 2019 Glasgow Business Awards Active and Healthy Workplace.
What we lack in size and budget we make up by investing our time and effort. We are more than a law firm. We go above and beyond to make Scullion LAW a great place to work, whilst providing an excellent service to clients and giving back as much as we can to the community. This is what I enjoy most about my role – the variety that each day brings. I enjoy organising events, office launches, updating social media (especially LinkedIn) and I like pulling together press releases to share the great achievements of my colleagues. I love networking, meeting new people and establishing strong working relationships with trusted suppliers. I work closely with the heads of each department to support their needs.
I love fundraising. I am a community champion and love to encourage colleagues to raise money for causes close to their hearts. We work closely with a few charities and over the years have taken part in events such as 10k runs, 23 mile Kiltwalk, Zip Slides across the River Clyde, sponsored walks, charity football tournaments, Sleep out in the Park and bake sales. It is very important to give back. We have been working closely with the charity Marie Curie for the last 5 years and also we are trained Dementia Friends with Alzheimer Scotland. I like that we work together to make a positive difference to the lives of others.
What three words would colleagues use to describe you?
Kind – helpful – creative.
Provide a social highlight from working at Scullion LAW over the last 12 months?
A group of us from Scullion LAW took part in the charity Kiltwalk, walking 23 Miles from Glasgow Green to Loch Lomond. It was a fun afternoon. It did not rain, the scenery was exceptional and there was lots of cheer and encouragement from local people along the route. I enjoyed being with my colleagues – we kept each other going. I also enjoyed our team day out cruising around Loch Lomond at the start of the year which was more of a jolly. I look forward to going to the Edinburgh Christmas Markets with colleagues and Wine Tasting with Management at Hotel Du Vin.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy spending quality time with my friends and family. I have two young boys and a loving husband, plus a large extended family so I enjoy hanging out with them. I try to go once or twice a week to the gym and I enjoy boxing, swimming and running. At home I enjoy cooking, entertaining & gardening. I love being outdoors. I also enjoy chilling out, watching Netflix. Some of my favourite shows this year have been Big Little Lies, Succession and Game of Thrones. When time permits… I enjoy painting, travelling and snowboarding (I would like to invest more time in my hobbies as feel like I rarely get the time to enjoy them). Overall, I have a good work life balance and I am very grateful.
Out of work I run a community facebook page called Glasgow West End Mums & Dads and I am still very active on the United For Colitis facebook page which raises #IBD awareness (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). Please feel free to check them both out.
Thank you.
