Scullion LAW supports Marie Curie FREE Wills Campaign for 5th year

Since 2015, the Wills & Future Planning team at Scullion LAW have helped nearly 600 people across Lanarkshire and Glasgow make a FREE WILL. We are delighted to be running the scheme for the fifth year, giving people in the local community the opportunity to create a will at no cost from the end of March through until the last day of May 2019.

Less than a third of Scots have a will

According to research from Which? Legal, only 31 per cent of Scottish adults have a will in place. This compares with 35 per cent in Wales and 42 per cent of adults in England having written a will. Scotland had the joint-lowest percentage in the survey taken last year, only level with London. With figures at such a high in Scotland, it is imperative that those without a will or needing to amend their existing will take every opportunity available to them.

Why make a will?

A will is the only legal way to specify what should happen once you die and the single most important way to protect and secure your family’s interests. A valid will can help family and friends sort out your estate, avoiding unnecessary distress at an already difficult time should you die without one (intestate). If you have dependent children, writing a will is especially important to arrange who should look after them.

Scullion LAW are the only law firm in Scotland running this scheme in aid of Marie Curie to offer people the chance to make and amend existing Wills for FREE as part of our continued commitment to the local community and in recognition of the incredible work that Marie Curie provides for those living with terminal illnesses.

Who can use the service?

We can make a FREE WILL for everyone in Scotland aged 55 and above, and for couples to qualify, only one person needs to be over 55. Marie Curie volunteers of any age are also eligible to access the service. Scullion LAW are happy to announce that we can also offer home visits upon request.

About Marie Curie

Marie Curie is Scotland’s largest independent provider of end of life care and the biggest charitable funder of hospice care beds in Scotland. The charity helps those who are terminally ill as well as their families make the most of the precious time they have together by delivering hands-on care and emotional support.

Marie Curie’s staff of 2,160 nurses makes it possible for those living with a terminal illness to die peacefully at home, surrounded by their loved one. Marie Curie nurses care for people in their own home or in the community of 31 out of 32 local authority areas.

They have nine hospices that provide round-the-clock care and in a friendly and supportive environment. In Scotland, they have hospices located in Edinburgh and Glasgow which offer short-term inpatient care, various outpatient day services and family support.

Marie Curie also work in a unique partnership with NHS Lothian and Macmillan Cancer Support to provide the West Lothian Community Palliative Care Service, based at St John’s Hospital in Livingston.
